Karambola Productions began its activity in 2009 as a company specialized in audiovisual products, film and television.
That year worked for the City Council of Bilbao the documentary “BILBAO, A CITY FOR FILMING” (“BILBAO, UNA CIUDAD PARA EL CINE”), a guide of locations for film productions that showed the possibilities of the city as a movie set. It was used as a tool to promote the Bilbao Film Commission at international festivals. Also in 2009, held the photo exhibition “Bilbao-USA. Km O “
In 2010 made five documentaries. One of them, “ARQUITECHTURE AND REVOLUTION: THE BASQUE RATIONALISM” (“ARQUITECTURA Y REVOLUCIÓN: EL RACIONALISMO VASCO”), commissioned by ETB, and the remaining four for the City Council of Bilbao, entitled “BILBAO OVER THE YEARS” (“BILBAO EN EL TIEMPO”).
“ARQUITECHTURE AND REVOLUTION: THE BASQUE RATIONALISM” which dealt with the origin and development of rationalist architecture in the Basque Country. The four documentaries“BILBAO OVER THE YEARS”narrated from a personal and poetic perspective the spectacular transformation of a city that exceeded the industrial crisis betting on a change of urban and economic model, in which culture and art played a fundamental role.
In 2011 the production company co-produced, along with ETB, “ANFITRIOI BEREZIA” and “THE STRANGE HOST” (“EL EXTRAÑO ANFITRIÓN”) two TV movies starring some archaeology students that travel during a summer to a town in the Basque coast and became involved in a conspiracy of psychological terror. Both films participated in the International Festival of Documentary and Short Film of Bilbao, Zinebi 2011, and the Basque Film Festival of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Zinemastea 2012.
In 2013 Karambola Productions has co-produced, also with ETB, and Euskaltel support and participation of the Department of Education, Language Policy and Culture of the Basque Government, the film “THE GOOD DAUGHTER” (“ALABA ZINTZOA”).
“THE GOOD DAUGHTER” tells the story of Susana, a young woman that works as a maid. One day she settles in her mistress domicile while she has to go to a business trip. The young woman just wants to run away from her own problems and enjoy the treats and the pleasures that brighten the lives of rich. But what stars as an innocent prank, later gets complicated with dramatic consequences.
In 2015 KARAMBOLA PRODUCTIONS filmed also in collaboration with ETB, another film: “THE SLAUGHTER” (“TXARRIBODA”). The film, a tense and haunting thriller, tells the story of Fran, a young businessman that when he sees his fortune in risk due to his marital problems, decide to draw a complex plan to get rid of his wife.
This same year, KARAMBOLA PRODUCTIONS shot and coproduced the shortfilm “THE IMAGINARY FRIEND” (“EL AMIGO IMAGINARIO”), which is part of the “Bilbao-Bizkaia. Exterior Día” project. The shortfilm, directed by Javier Rebollo with a script by Maria Eugenia Salaverri, was filmed on location linking the romantic and majestic Doña Casilda Park, built in the early 20th century, with the modernity of Abandoibarra, built a hundred years later.
